Bu Geç Vakit poetic review by Sadaf Munshi

The title of this composition, Bu Geç Vakit (‘at this late hour’), is based on a Turkish poem possibly inspired by a verse in the Bible which reads: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”. The poet Nazim Hekmet described his (lady) love as the Word in this very emotional poem. This is followed by the Farsi poem (Mehdi Akhavan Sales) depicts the desperate situation of the lover who is longing to see his beloved. Deifying the beloved and comparing her with God, and even praying to her, the poet eulogizes her without any prejudice. The composition celebrates the woman as one of god’s unique creations who can also create. She is a mother, a woman, and a comrade.
