El Sueño Poems and Translation
El Sueño
Nima Yooshij, Jorge Luis Borges
Night all night, I’m not able to
I am listening to the muffled sound of the caravan bell from far away
We have the same reins, we speak the same language
The road is empty for everyone has left
And the debris, the debris falls on the head
If sleep were (as they say) a truce, a pure repose of the mind,
Why, if woken so brusquely, do you feel robbed of a fortune? a fortune? a fortune?
-¿Por qué es tan triste madrugar? (Spanish)
Why is it so sad to rise with the sun?
The hour strips us of an inconceivable gift,-so intimate that it can only be translated
in a lethargy that wakefulness gilds
Who will you be tonight in darkSleep, on the other side of its wall?
el sueño el sueño el sueño
The dream, the dream, the dream
Night, all night, I am unable to sleep. Night, all night……
