La Cloche Vide poetic review by Sadaf Munshi
The composition of La Cloche Vide ‘the broken bell’ presents a tragic love story. Using two very evocative poems — one in French and the other in Farsi, it reflects the pain and suffering associated with distance and separation of the lover from the beloved. Desperate to see his beloved, the lover finds no joy in the world and feels bitter, motionless and broken. The world seems like a strange and desolate place. This is illustrated in the two poems which employ extremely powerful imagery and metaphor bringing a very emotional scene which ends at an invocation for the beloved, compared with the inner voice of the lover, imploring her to stay with him.
